Welcome to the Circus: Life With Little Kids
If you walked into my house on a normal weekday, you'd think a small tornado had a personal grudge against me. And honestly? You'd be right.
I'm a stay-at-home mama with kids 8 and under, a husband who runs heavy equipment, and a house about 50 miles from Yellowstone. Some days feel like a peaceful little homestead dream. This week felt like a very loud, very sticky circus.
Exhibit A: The Big Shoes
My son found his dad's work boots and decided he was ready for the job site. He ran laps around the house in shoes about four sizes too big, clomping like a tiny, proud heavy equipment operator. He did not fall once. I did not stop him. It was too cute.
Exhibit B: The Yogurt Spa Day
While I was busy with the shoe parade, the baby gave herself a yogurt treatment. Every last bit of it, wiped right into her hair. She was very pleased with herself. I was less pleased, but she smelled like vanilla, so it wasn't all bad.
Exhibit C: The Toilet Incident
I'll keep this one short because I'm still recovering. One of my girls took the toilet paper apart. Not "messed with it." Took it apart and destroyed it and flooded the whole bathroom. So here comes me, Mr. Mom to the rescue to fix it while asking my husband how.
Exhibit D: The Backseat Art Show
Then there's my car. Another kid got ahold of a marker and drew on the seats. It's a masterpiece, I'm sure, but it's on the upholstery. I've decided to call it "custom interior."
Here's the thing:
If the house is quiet for more than three minutes, something is happening. But the mess, the noise, and the chaos are the good stuff. Someday the house will be quiet and I'll miss every sticky fingerprint and every giant pair of boots clomping down the hall.
So if you're in the thick of it too, mama, you're not alone. Grab your coffee (reheat it, it's cold again) and keep going. You're doing great.
Tell me your wildest kid moment this week in the comments. I need to know I'm not the only one! 💛
